A film entitled "Murder on a Sunday Morning" describes a 2000 murder in Jacksonville, Florida, that involved both an incorrect eyewitness identification and a coerced confession. The film won an Academy Award in 2002 for Best Documentary Film. Another excellent film on eyewitness memory is "What Jennifer Saw", a PBS documentary about a young White woman who was raped and misidentified the Black rapist. Even after DNA evidence had led to the release of the innocent man after several years in prison, and the actual rapist had been convicted, the victim still "saw" the man she had misidentified when she "remembered" the rape. |
